Weekending in Key West with the Fam

Home of one of my favorite desserts (KEY LIME PIE!! 😍), the island of Key West is a perfect place for a weekend trip (especially if you’re within a drive!).  A family trip with young ones can be a bit different from a trip without them, so I put together a little list to help plan. Here are some suggestions if you’re gearing up for a weekend Key West trip WITH the fam in tow:

Go to Kermit’s for Key Lime Pie…IMG_6331

And try it all (the pie, the ice cream, the ice pops, the cookies, the salsa…). Seriously, the BEST. And #WhenInKeyWest right? You might even want to stop again on your way out.

Stroll along Duval Street

Enjoy the shopping and delicious restaurant’s on Duval Street. Truly the “place to be” on Key West. It’s family oriented by day, and quite a party at night. Our favorite dining location is Caroline’s Café- absolutely a MUST (and let the uh um “little ones” splurge on the Cookie Monster Dessert).

Go to the southernmost point of the US

There will most likely be a line. But it’s worth it to wait and get the pic.  You can people watch while you wait!

Spend a day enjoying the beach and pool

Remember, you ARE on a beach! There are some fabulous excursions for older kids- snorkeling, jet skiing, boat rentals, deep sea fishing, etc. etc. We love heading over to KeyWest Higgs Beach for the beach and enclosed playground/park right there over the water. If you stay at 24 North Hotel, definitely check out that hotel pool area.

Check out a museum, like the Key West Art & Historical Society

The museum is fascinating and you can enjoy a self guided tour with the family at your own pace. Check out the Guy Harvey sketch of “The Old Man and the Sea” or some history of local artists.

Go to Peppers of Key West…

And try the hot sauce. Pull up a bar stool and they’ll let you sample them… ALL (bring your own water lol). We loved it so much my husband has ordered more from them online!

Have fun!
